Drafts can cause headaches when trying to heat or cool a home. Performing a home and office insulation and draught proofing to save money project will remove any pesky openings that are causing the loss of energy and raising bills. By following a few steps the project can be completed very easily.

Ensuring that safety is always used when home improvements can not only make a job go smoother it can also keep from doing the job a second time. In the area of installing energy saving material a couple pieces of equipment are mandatory. First is eye protection as in eye glasses. This will protect the eyes from dust and debris that can be shook loose during the installation process.

The energy saving material that is being installed has particles of glass that can cause irritated and itchiness if it touches bare skin. Long sleeve shirts will help protect against any irritation that is caused during installation. Wearing gloves will also protect hands from being exposed as well and will add protection against splinters.

For the energy saving material installation the tools that are required consist of a staple gun with additional staples. A tape measure will also be required for measuring area prior to the application process. A box knife works the best for cutting this material so having one handy is a good idea before starting.

The tools required for finding the draft that is coming in include caulk and a caulking gun, a candle or lighter. Using these items can help locate and repair the leaks. Also if the area turns out to be a door a separate kit can be purchased and installed by following the directions included in the packaging.

Once everything has been collected it is time to begin the installation. Using the measuring tape take a measurement of the installation area. After the length has been determined use the box cutter to remove a strip. The material can be held in place by static electricity providing a hands free environment. After placing the material it is time to use the staple gun and put a staple in every foot starting at the top and going to the bottom.

In order to find a draft using the candle or lighter is required. The flame will flicker when the affected area has been found. After locating the area it is time to apply the caulk to seal up the draft. Take the caulk gun and squeeze the caulk into the exposed area thus sealing it up. After energy saving material is up and the areas are secured the job is complete.
