Dr. Chua Soi Lek Striving For Uni-Racial Unity In Malaysia

A reverent politician from Malaysia, Dr. Chua Soi Lek has been in active politics for last 22 years working for the Malaysian-Chinese community. He's the president of the Malaysian Chinese Association, which is the third and the largest Component in the National Front ruling in Malaysia.

The Malaysian Chinese association was formed in 1949 with the ideology of Nationalism, muralist and social conservatism. The Association has been headed by Dr. Chua Soi Lek since 28th march 2010 being the ninth president.

Born on 2nd January 1947, Dr. Chua Soi Lek comes from the province of Johor, Malaysia. He's a married man with three children. Dr. Chua is a trained psychiatrist and used to practice before entering politics. He started off as medical officer in his hometown Batu Pahat Hospital and then in 1977 he established his own clinic which he disposed off in 1990 to enter the full-time politics. He first got elected in the yr 1986 as state Assemblyman from Penggaram, Johor, on the ticket of MCA. He served this constituency constantly 18 yrs until he became the state executive councilor in 2004. In the yr 2004 he contested the general elections from the Labis Parliamentary seat and also won, this election was contested in coalition of the National Front or Barison Nasional. Consequently Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, the then Prime Minister appointed him as the new Minister of Health in the Malaysian Cabinet. He remained in office from 28 March 2004 to 2 Jan 2008.

During his profession Dr. Chua Soi Lekhas held several essential posts. He was the Member of Parliament representing Labis, vice-president of MCA, chairman of the state liaison committee of MCA Johor, divisional chairman of Batu Pahat. He needed to face political rivalry and was intentionally isolated and also expelled by the disciplinary committee of MCA in August 2009, from the party.

On 10th October, 2009, the supporters of Dr. Chua Soi Lek had called for an Extraordinary General Meeting where the Presidency of Ong Tee Keit was challenged and to reinstate Dr. Chua as a member of MCA in the position of Vice-President. In this meeting two resolutions were passed, one a vote of no-confidence was passed by 14 votes against Ong Tee Keit and in the other, Dr. Chua's expulsion was reverted. Both didn't resign but decided to place their differences aside. At the moment some members of the central committee who were led by Mr. Liow Tiong Lai, asked for fresh elections.

Eventually in march 2010, Chua, his supports and a few other members of the central committee supporting Liow Lai, resigned. With the resignation by more than 2/3rd members of the central committed, the party had no other option but to call for fresh elections. Dr Chua contested in a three-corner fight for Presidency together with Ong Tee Keit and Ong Ka Ting, whereby he emerged victorious. He became the President of MCA.

Dr Chua has great devotion for his nation and intensive work experience in lots of sectors to strive for the development of the general public and the nation along and hence he's so well-liked in Malaysia.
