The window frame of many homes are usually old and hence require constant replacements from time to time. One area in particular that is in constant need of re-modeling are the cords that are easily worn out. Such a job is generally not so hard to pull off if one possess the necessary skills to do so. The rest of this article will therefore be zooming in on the essential details regarding How To Change A Broken Cord On A Sash Window.

To start with, one should firstly remove the sash weights appropriately. The ropes themselves are often the issue because they are still attached to the weights. While doing this, it would be easy for one to take the chance to remove any and all types of insects found within the wells of the window grills, since they are usually the best places for them to reside in.

After the nests are found, it would be best for one to use a good brand of sustainable insect spray to get rid of the nest. In this case, residual insecticide would be one of the best options for the job.

After doing that, the sash weights should be safely placed back at the base region of the well and a block of wood 3 to 4 inches thick should be placed there instead. When the window begins to be opened, this additional space will keep the weights from "bottoming out". This will also eventually compensate for the amount of rope length that is stretched.

After that, the newer rope would be shifted past the pulley and onto the end-weights. The end with the window sash should be protruding 2-3 inches past the hole of the pulley by a single knot. Later on, it should be attached at the other side.

Repeat the above process at the other end of the window in a similar fashion. It would actually be a good solution to have a friend hold up the other side of the window while all this is happening. The casing should then be replaced and the remaining leftovers trimmed off neatly with finishing nails. The nail holes would then be sealed off using wood putty and painted to suit the decor properly.

If one is not naturally suited to hands-on DIY tasks, then this job might prove to be a bit of a challenge. However, by knowing how to change a broken cord on a sash window, one will be better suited to do the task.
