The network consulting industry has evolved as a direct result of the integral relationship between business and Internet Technology. Smaller and mid-size companies rely on these consulting firms to provide them with IT services they need and cannot afford in-house. There are 3 areas that these firms address; Monitoring and Management, Off-Site Access, and Risk Management.

Monitoring and Management

Anyone who uses the Internet understands the frustration when their provider is down. Multiply this frustration several times over when it happens to a business enterprise. Downtime can result in the loss of thousands of dollars of sales. This translates to the loss of any digital assets as well. A firm with specific and wide ranging expertise in monitoring and managing an IT system can save a company from the losses that are associated with IT malfunctions.

Real Time Access

One of the benefits of hiring an IT consulting company is their ability to manage and monitor from their own location, saving the client the space that on-site management would require. They also work in real time, so responses are immediate thereby limiting the possibilities for any disruption in service. If the problem requires sending a technician, he will already be aware of what is required and will arrive prepared to take immediate action.

Real time access within a format allows for in-depth reporting and a simplification of managing and planning. The ability to quickly resolve an IT problem also protects hardware from undue wear and tear. Time is then better spent by company management in planning and growing the business instead of resolving IT issues.

IT Risk Management

The most commonly known forms of IT security are firewalls and software to prevent virus and spyware attacks. For more complex systems, IT experts need to plan for all contingencies including electrical and hardware issues in order to ensure minimal business disruption. Internet downtime or the loss of data has financial ramifications for a business.

The loss of data as a result of the attacks on the World Trade Center building in September 2001 prompted the development of off-site data collection sites. Digital data is a valuable asset of a business and needs protection as any other asset. Data security means planning for destructive events that could level an entire building. Hardware and software can be replaced, but was data is lost is could be irretrievable if not saved elsewhere.

We live in a time of unprecedented change. Much of this change is attributed to the far reaching ramifications of the rapid change in internet technologies. For industries such as network consulting firms who have hitched their wagons to the IT phenomenon, their growth in ensured as long as they remain current and serve the IT needs of business.
