Using a DIY safety guide for emergency roof and gutter repairs is a great way to make sure you avoid accidents. You should make sure you follow all the advice you are given. If you are unable to do so then hire a professional to come and carry out the repairs for you.

Firstly before you do anything check the state of the weather. If it is not a clear and dry day then you are better of waiting for a more suitable time. Rain, sleet, hail and snow make surfaces very slippery and so working on ladders is not recommended. Winds are also dangerous and so wait for the weather to be calm before starting.

Another major issue is with the tools and equipment you have. If they are not suitable then by no means should you try and make any repairs. The ladder needs to be appropriate and there must be someone with you to ensure that it is held steady against the wall.

It is wise to use the addition of a harness as an extra precaution. This is then able to prevent any accidents caused by falling off the roof. These can be purchased from DIY stores. Make sure your shoes have rubber grips and fit you well.

Guttering which is old or not well maintained can often break. Often it is the connecting sections which leak and these can be slotted back together quite easily. If the section needs repairing then you can purchase extra lengths of guttering to replace the broken parts.

You can sometimes fix gutters without too much trouble. Sections can become loosened and simply need clicking back together. You can also repair section and buy pieces to patch up the problem area. You might only have a small amount of repairs to carry out in which case a ladder should suffice. Larger jobs can be a lot more difficult to repair and a scaffold can make life a lot easier. Ask a local company to come and erect some scaffolding at your home if you do not have any. Remember to have someone come and help you out. This makes the job get completed faster, and also means someone is able to help in an emergency.

Working at height requires the use of protective gear such as a hard hat. These are cheap to buy and can save lives. Most of the accidents at construction sites occur when hard hats are not worn. Prevention is better than the cure, so act sensibly.
