Tech Hint of the Day: How to Make a Spreadsheet

For many computers, spreadsheets are definitely one of its most advantageous purposes. They can help increase productivity for several purposes, and are particularly for business proprietors. In any office productivity suite, a spreadsheet would surely be found.

Examples of Productivity Suites are Microsoft Office and Open Office. The spreadsheet programs you will find in these suites are Microsoft Office Excel and OpenOffice Calc. Since there are a lot of elements to using spreadsheets, newbies usually find spreadsheets to be hard to utilize. For this reason we will teach you how to make a spreadsheet.

We will effort to generate an easy financial report and in order for it to become more comprehensible, we will use Microsoft Excel. Below are the guidelines you can actually follow on how to make a spreadsheet:

1. Open Microsoft Excel.

2. What you will observe then are cells with:

a. Columns having letters (A, B, C) as labels

b. Rows labeled with (1, 2, 3).

3. Do not forget that you will address every cell based on the row and column that it is placed.

a. For instance, cell A1 is the most primary cell you will see directly beneath column A and row 1.

4. Enter the word 'Item' in cell A1.

5. Key in 'Printing' to cell A2.

6. Type 'Printing' to cell A2.

7. Then, key in 100.00 to cell B2. (Hint: Whatever thing you have entered in a cell will be retained by just making a click outside the cell.)

8. Select cell A3 and then key in 'Postage'.

9. Move to cell B3 and then input 85.00.

10. Choose cell A4 and type 'Envelopes'.

11. For cell A4 in particular, type 42.00.

12. Key in the word 'Total' in cell A5.

13. Choose cell A5 and enter '=SUM(B2:B4)'.

14. If you click any cell in the spreadsheet, you will notice 227.00.

15. Save and you are through.
